Tradition of statue street performance has been walking through for a long history within Europe. Could be easily found as it is just a usual activity in town. Surprisingly I found them in Shenzhen last month, Statue has invaded into China!

Easter with Panda

Strange installation of culture remix, each components seem no connection between each other. But it is better to stand-alone and not to dress like a rabbit with a basket of eggs XP

Hong Kong international Film Festival

Recently had participated in 3 movies within Hong Kong international Film Festival: Monsters vs Aliens, Dome-Omnibus Animation and World Animation. Tokyo minced is the most inspirational one within Dome-Omnibus Animation for me which playing lots of transition and deformation to express the feeling of stress in the city. Amazing drawing skills ~ From observation, trend in animation seems embedded in playing with time and rhythms.

Installation: Fish and Wave

Nice work! Such installation has caught my attention while walking into Harbor City. The shiny fishes are placed in the air with transparent body and dynamic movement which carries a very strong spatial feeling for me, perception of M.C. Escher’s illusion world has come to my mind. Thus, each different height of wooden blocks has responsible for their own duty and creating a beautiful wave and rhythm as a whole. Isn’t it looks like one of the performance in Beijing Olympic opening ceremony?

Charming Experience 「尋樂.經驗」

“無常, fugacity” created by Stanley Wong

Dragonflies again, could it be a little bit more?

Red-White-Blue series created by other artist

Today just been to a contemporary art exhibition: Charming Experience 「尋樂.經驗」in Hong Kong Museum of Art, but there is a little disappointed and dull while looking at those which had seen several times in other event these several years, such as electric dragonflies on the ceiling, metal mirror stone and “RED-WHITE-BLUE” series ! Ironically, such series is not presented by its former, the artist is just doing a tiny adjustment on it, to be honest, it is almost and totally the same creation of the creator. And in fact, “Stanley Wong” is on the stage as well.

Stanley Wong is one of my favorite artists in Hong Kong, this time he has rejected to use the above method of creating the pieces as several years had done before. Surprisingly, a coffin has been placed with the cover opens. He invites people to take off their shoes and enjoy, experience themselves into it. But this is not the end of the story as the coffin can transform into a sofa while moving away some of the components. What does it tell? Title of this art called “無常, fugacity”. The combination of death symbol and daily life furniture make myself realize the power of Azrael as he can come from anytime in our life. Scarey artwork ~ In the meantime, it brought me back to the earthquake of Sichuan四川. Such disaster came so sudden as the local people had no time to run for survive, they might be just sitting onto the sofa in that moment.

Another interesting installation is located outside the event entrance. Artist has created a series of cushions with different facial expressions of Timothy FOK Tsun-ting霍震霆 and placed onto the sofa for the public to use. Also, a TV in the front which projecting his speech and event is also welcome for watching. From observation, the participants were tended to be positive to him as they usually treated those as their sweetie “HELLO KITTY”, hugging him, sit back and relax~~~~ And some of the people even treated the props as real and took photographs with him. What will happen if his enemy nearby! :D

P.S. I am not appreciating people who copy other creation without transforming or adding new meaning into it.

So Hing Keung: RED

Contemporary local photographer So Hing Keung is having a “RED SERIES” exhibition within the art gallery in Louis Vuitton flag shop, Tsim Sha Tsui. The red flowers’s window display of the shop seems synchronizing with his art which make the whole picture become much more interesting, just like a present wrapping on top, treasuring something fascinating inside. Such valuable present come up with nervous and strange feeling as it’s require to walk through their “GOLDEN GRAND MIRROR STAIRS” while getting to the second floor gallery. Yes… somehow it is LV’s style, so ! no objection.

Unlike previous So’s collections of mainly using mono tone to express a space, colours with the main character: RED have been implied. Referring to its leaflet, red is having a contradiction between China and the West. In our society it representing something positive, could be wealth, happiness, love etc. Meantime, it is the smell of blood and death within western world. By having totally different understanding of such colour, different messages could be received from the particulars.

My favorite one has been showed on top. It seems two grandparents holding and protecting their lovest children silently. The spread of gold oil on its root provides a room for more imagination, is it means the wealthiness of this family?

Fotan Artists Open Studio 2009

By visiting the numerous of Fotanian’s studios, I could see the passions squeezing from their “Home Mixed” workshops. Curiosity is not only limited to the final piece, but the whole atmosphere of artist’s paradise by being close with each production participants, especially the suite of home furniture: bed, bathroom, sofa, TV, Video Game and kitchen. It can show their spirit in Art have been pushed to the top level by sticking in there day by day, night by night.

Well done of each individuals as it has created an installation art in the industrial building, each funny cube, (including other activities of units, like food manufacture factory, advertising firm, Chinese clinic etc) has presenting their own rhythm and smell. Example could be found in Blue Lotus Gallery (relaxing, natural, simple, unrealistic by using white as main studio colour, provide plenty of space to breath and a bed in the center), Studio 1023 (exciting, warm by posting out high density of movie poster’s art works, huge size of bookshelves and usage of orange lights). The mixture of different atmospheres within the buildings make them become much more interesting.
